Micah Richards has named Liverpool forward Diogo Jota as his signing of the season in the Premier League.
The Reds signed the Portuguese attacker in the summer window from top-flight rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers in a deal worth £41million (BBC).
Jota, 23, arrived in Jurgen Klopp’s squad to help provide cover for the front three of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino, but his impact has been so great that he’s managed to break his way into the XI forcing a formation change in the recent draw against Manchester City.
He is a versatile speedster that can play in wide or central attacking positions and he’s quickly made himself a big favourite on Merseyside.
The forward has already scored decisive goals in league victories over Arsenal, Sheffield United and West Ham, as well as scoring four goals in three Champions League stage fixtures.
Richards singled out Liverpool’s new hero Jota when asked who he thought the Premier League signing of the summer was:
“The fact Diogo Jota is now playing to such a level that Liverpool have deployed a front four tells you everything about his impact. Nobody was expecting this after his £41m move from Wolves,” he told the Daily Mail.

TBR’s View:
Wolves will have been happy in the summer collecting £40million-plus for Jota and he had been a vital part of the side at Molineux in recent years during their success, but it seemed like the right time for him to move on with Pedro Neto and Daniel Podence breaking into the XI.
His versatility in forward areas made him look like a decent acquisition for Liverpool, but not many would have predicted the kind of impact he’s made.
He’s managed to perfectly compliment the Reds forward line with some extra pace and directness, as well as showing a real composure in front of goal in the early stages of his Anfield career.
