Micah Richards likens Leeds United star to Liverpool midfielder

Micah Richards has told BBC Radio 5 Live’s Monday Night Club that he Leeds United midfielder Stuart Dallas reminds him of Liverpool veteran and boyhood Leeds academy graduate James Milner – after Dallas netted twice against Manchester City.

Dallas, 30, took his tally to seven goals for the Premier League season on Saturday afternoon as Leeds produced one of the biggest shocks of the campaign with a 2-1 win over Pep Guardiola’s side. That is, despite playing more than a half with 10 men.

Northern Ireland international Dallas notched both goals as Leeds climbed momentarily into ninth position in the Premier League, only for Arsenal to beat Sheffield United and push them back into tenth. Still, an incredible result for Leeds and Dallas.

The ex-Brentford man has since gained enormous praise for his performance from supporters and pundits alike, including Richards – who compared him to £140,000-a-week (Spotrac) Milner, a player that played 50 times for Leeds in his early days.

“He’s just football intelligence isn’t he,” Richards said. “We’ve done analysis on him so many times. He just gets on with it, his versatility is key. He reminds me a little bit of James Milner, where he is a little bit underrated.

“You can put him in any position and he will do a job. I’m not comparing him – but Milner has played at left-back, right-back, right midfield, left midfield, holding midfield, attacking midfield, and even up front. He is versatile, and he can be trusted.”

TBR’s view – How many years does Dallas has left in him?

What stands Dallas out from the rest is his engine, and his work rate. A good footballer, he is certainly below the cream of the drop when it comes to to technique, goals or assists. But not many can beat him when it comes to stamina, or versatility.

Richards is bang on in likening the two. Dallas is showing no signs of slowing down but how many years can Leeds rely on him to provide their beating heart in midfield? Well, if he is to show another likeness to Milner, at least another five or six years.
