Sky Sports pundit, Micah Richards, was full of praise for Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker yesterday, following the Reds’ 2-0 win against Southampton.

Alisson put in a fine performance to ensure Liverpool kept a clean-sheet against the Saints. It was a much improve showing from the Brazilian, who has made some high-profile mistakes this season.

And speaking on Sky Sports following the game, former Manchester City man Richards had nothing but good words for the Liverpool man.

He was brilliant. A lot of goalkeeping is anticipation and he sensed the danger. When you have two young centre-backs in front of you, you need to be a vocal point behind them,” Richards said.

“I thought he led by example brilliantly today. And not only today, he’s one of the best – him and Ederson – are the best two ‘keepers in the Premier League. Everything he did today was great for the team.”

Goals from Sadio Mane and then Thiago Alcantara ensured the Reds kept up their slim hopes of a top four finish. Mo Salah was also in good form, putting in a fine cross from which Mane headed home.

Jurgen Klopp, then, will be hoping for some favours in the coming weeks from those playing against the likes of West Ham and Leicester.

TBR View: Alisson back to his best and Liverpool need him at that level

There’s no doubt Alisson has had a rocky campaign by his standards. After being so exceptional last season, mistakes have crept in and he has cost the Reds at times.

But last night he was well and truly back. Richards was right to praise him and if Liverpool are to be successful again, then Alisson being at his best is key.
