Micah Richards has lavished praises on Liverpool defender Joe Gomez, and hopes to see him step up in terms of showing more leadership in 2020/21.
The former Manchester City has written a column for The Daily Mail in which he has offered some thoughts about every Premier League table ahead of the new season.
Richards believes Liverpool will not retain their Premier League crown, but did reserve praise for Gomez, who in his eyes, is England’s best defender.

He wrote: “It’s so hard to pick out the key players from the champions, as they have got world-class players from front to back. So I’m nominating Gomez as my one to watch as I believe he’s got so much more in his locker.
“He is England’s best central defender – without a shadow of a doubt – and I want to see him become a real leader this season. I know he can do it.”
£28,000-a-week star Gomez (Spotrac) is currently firmly established as a starter at Anfield alongside Virgil van Dijk, who is bound to be having a solid impact on the 23-year-old’s character.
TBR’s View – Gomez learning from the best
With van Dijk next to him, Gomez’s leadership qualities can only improve.

The Dutch international may not wear the armband at Anfield, but can always be seen barking orders and very rarely has a poor game.
There may come a time when van Dijk picks up an injury and so in that eventuality, Gomez must be the one to lead the defence.
