Micah Richards claims West Ham should not be signing £350k-a-week England star this month

Micah Richards has responded when asked whether West Ham would be a potential landing spot for Jordan Henderson, with the midfielder keen to leave Al Ettifaq after just a few months.

Jordan Henderson surprised, and angered many when he decided to leave Liverpool for Saudi Arabia in the summer transfer window.

As reported by Sky Sports, the 33-year-old cost Steven Gerrard’s side £13 million. And he is earning around £350,000-a-week in the Kingdom. However, it appears that he now has second thoughts about spending the twilight of his career in the Saudi Pro League.

Micah Richards doesn’t think West Ham need Jordan Henderson

Henderson obviously won almost everything during his time at Anfield. So there will be plenty of teams at least discussing whether they want to make a move for the England international this month.

Micah Richards was asked on The Monday Night Club whether West Ham could be a contender to sign Henderson. But he insisted that David Moyes’ men have little need for the veteran.

“He’s not going to play. They have Alvarez, Ward Prowse, they are unbelievable in the centre of the park. Henderson is a top player but he’s moved on because his better years are behind him. If he was in the best form of his life he wouldn’t have gone there,” he said.

Not worth the hassle for Hammers

Sky Sports’ report noted that Al Ettifaq will not allow Henderson to leave on the cheap. So that is certainly another factor which potential admirers will have to factor in.

Henderson will turn 34 in the summer. And while former teammate James Milner continues to prove that you can play in the Premier League well into the late thirties, Henderson has now got the disadvantage of being away from the division for a number of months.

Certainly, Henderson would be a decent squad addition for several Premier League clubs in this window.

But when you consider the potential figures involved, plus the scrutiny that he would be under upon his return, it is surely not a worthwhile move for a West Ham if they want to keep moving forward.
