Mesut Ozil has been keeping a close eye on things at the World Cup and the former Arsenal man had some kind words for England and Bukayo Saka.
England crashed out of the tournament last night as France held on to win 2-1. Harry Kane’s missed penalty meant it was yet more misery from 12 yards for the Three Lions in major tournaments.

However, despite the loss, there was plenty to be positive about again for England. Not least, the performances of young Arsenal starlet, Bukayo Saka.
Saka won the first penalty for England and enjoyed a fine World Cup overall, scoring three goals. And watching on from afar last night was a certain Mesut Ozil, who took to Twitter with some kind words for Saka after the full-time whistle went.
Ozil was a big favourite among the Arsenal fans for some time before going the way of so many a big name at the club in recent years.
Since then, his career has gone a tad quiet. However, there’s no denying the class Ozil had and his words to Saka here are yet another nod to how good the Englishman can be.
TBR’s View: Saka can be proud of his performances
Saka grew into the game last night after a quiet start to proceedings and in the end looked like one of England’s best players.
Like so many young players in this squad, Saka has done himself proud. He’s effectively sealed his place on that right side now for the next tournament. His goals were a big bonus as well and on the night, Gareth Southgate might well reflect and regret taking him off.
Now, the time has come for Saka to kick on further. He can get even better and at just 21, the future, as Ozil says, could be his.
