Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has praised the impact made by Mikel Arteta at the club.
It’s been just under a month since the Gunners appointed the Spaniard as Unai Emery’s permanent successor, and the former Manchester City number two has come in for a lot of credit from fans and pundits.
It’s two wins, two draws and one defeat so far for Arteta, but there has been a noticeable change in the way the team are playing under his stewardship.
One man who has improved immensely under him is Ozil, who of course has been at Arsenal long enough to have actually been a teammate of Arteta’s.
He told the club’s official website: “He knows what to say to us, how to give us a positive attitude and how to make us be successful.
“I can see he is really hungry, but at the same time he is very down to earth and that is a very good characteristic to make us be a successful team.
“It is basically getting us back to the old Arsenal virtues. Fighting and having possession, being in control of the game, having the ball all the time.
“These are the things that he is working on with us and you can see it – everyone is smiling, laughing, enjoying their time at the moment and this has made us be successful now.”
TBR’s view – Players have responded
It certainly seems as though the players love Arteta and the ideas he has brought to the club.
Ozil in particular looks rejuvenated under the 38-year-old, which is a big plus for the Gunners.
Ozil’s comments definitely suggest that it had all gotten a bit aimless under Emery and that the dressing room wasn’t in a good state.
