Mesut Ozil has posted on Twitter after being left out of Arsenal’s 18-man squad to take on Manchester City at the Etihad on Wednesday night – with Mikel Arteta claiming he was overlooked for “tactical reasons”.
Ozil, 31, was not even named on the bench as Pep Guardiola’s side cruised to a 3-0 win over the Gunners – with David Luiz causing a calamity at the back after entering the field of play in the first half.
Replacing Pablo Mari, Luiz failed to control a cross from Kevin De Bruyne that saw Raheem Sterling lash home the first Premier League goal after the global health crisis – and his first in 2020.
Luis was then sent off after a foul on Riyad Mahrez, and De Bruyne scored the resulting penalty. Phil Foden rounded off the win late on, and Ozil has now posted a three-word message on Twitter after being left out of the side.
Ozil, who has been strongly linked with the exit door at Arsenal due to his enormous £350,000-a-week wages, had started the previous 10 Premier League matches for Arsenal. His absence was somewhat surprising.
Arsenal supporters reacted to his post on Twitter, with many showing their love for the Germany international and ex-Real Madrid player. The matter of his future is still up in the air, though, as he enters his final 12 months.
