Mesut Ozil has taken to Twitter to predict that Arsenal will win their Europa League group-stage opener with Rapid Vienna 4-1, as he confirmed that he will be watching the game from London.
Much of the talk leading up to the fixture surrounded the 31-year-old. The former Germany international was left out of Arsenal’s squad lists for both the Europa League and Premier League.
That makes it seem incredibly unlikely, as things stand, that Ozil will make another appearance for the Gunners before his contract expires at the end of the season.
The situation surrounding Ozil may divide some Arsenal fans. Of course, some will argue that he could have still made an impact for Mikel Arteta’s side.
But the majority seem to be looking forward to when the situation is put to bed once and for all. At the moment, that will seemingly happen when his contract expires or the two parties reach an agreement to tear up the remaining months of his deal.
But Ozil put the situation to one side on Thursday as he took to social media ahead of Arsenal’s clash in Austria.
The attacking midfielder predicted an emphatic victory for the Gunners. And he also backed Sead Kolasinac, Mohamed Elneny, Alexandre Lacazette and Nicolas Pepe to get the goals.
Here is Ozil’s tweet ahead of the game…
When I can’t support on the pitch tonight, I will support in front of the TV in London. What are your predictions for the match? I go for a 4-1 away victory 🔴💪🏼 goalscorers @seadk6, @ElNennY, @LacazetteAlex & Pepe😉#UEL #YaGunnersYa
