Mesut Ozil has made it crystal clear to Arsenal fans on Twitter that he is “ready” to play as the Gunners prepare to take on Liverpool at The Emirates – despite Mikel Arteta’s comments in his pre-Liverpool press conference.
Ozil, 31, has failed to play a single minute of action since the restart – making the bench in just two of Arsenal’s eight fixtures. A supposed back problem is said to have ruled Ozil out in recent matches.
However, Arteta is clearly not impressed with the way Ozil has conducted himself – and like Matteo Guendouzi – has dropped him from the starting line-up, and perhaps the entire squad altogether.
Arteta was asked about Ozil’s situation on Tuesday and as per Football London, he stated that the “situation remains the same”. Despite that, Ozil has taken to Twitter to make it clear that he is ready to play against Liverpool.
TBR’s view – Should Arteta give Ozil another Arsenal chance?
Ozil is a quality player. When on the top of his game, there are not many others around who can produce the levels of creativity that the former Real Madrid star can conjure up. But his lack of work ethic is a problem.
Arteta wants a team with high intensity that is capable of a high press. Ozil is a Rolls Royce-type player, who slows the tempo down but can pick a pass. He simply does not fit in Arteta’s new Arsenal.
He could be a good option from the bench if Arsenal need some creativity, but he certainly should not start. Whether Arteta is keeping him sidelined due to his contract issues, is another debate entirely.
