Lionel Messi is the best player in the world
Whilst Cristiano Ronaldo missed chance after chance, with only three of his eight shots on target, Lionel Messi stole the show as he stepped up to the plate and almost single handedly brought his side back into the title race in La Liga with a magnificent display.
Battered and bruised, with Marcelo’s elbow smashing his face early on before Sergio Ramos flew in two footed at his feet, he drew his side back into the game with a key moment in which he leveled the scores after the favourites took the lead just before the half hour mark with a mazey run and composed finish.
His best moment of all came in the final gasp of the match, his run being teed up perfectly by Jordi Alba to curl his shot low into the bottom corner in possibly the only inch of the net beyond Keylor Navas’ reach. That goal was his 500th for Barcelona, and could yet prove to be one of his most important.
