Paul Merson has told Sky Sports that he finds it strange that Liverpool are yet to win the FA Cup under Jurgen Klopp as he backed Manchester City to now go on and win the Premier League title.
The Reds missed the opportunity to move top of the league table at the weekend. In fact, they had to come from behind on two occasions to earn a point against Pep Guardiola’s men.

Of course, the league is one of three fronts Liverpool are continuing to battle on. They look to be on the verge of booking their place in the semi-final of the Champions League. Meanwhile, the Carabao Cup is already in the trophy cabinet.
This weekend, Liverpool face Manchester City again – this time, in the FA Cup semi-final. Quite remarkably, it is almost 16 years since they last lifted that particular trophy.

Under Klopp, their record in the competition is poor, for various reasons. They had got to the fifth round once before this season. And Merson suggested that he is surprised to see Klopp missing the trophy from his CV.
“It was in Liverpool’s hands on Sunday but it’s out of their hands now. As soon as it’s out of their hands, it’s a different game. Jurgen Klopp hasn’t won the FA Cup which is strange so that’s on the line this weekend and to be honest they’ve done very little wrong,” he told Sky Sports.
“They’ve been outstanding but they’ve just bumped into an unbelievable team at the same time. If this City team weren’t around, Liverpool would win everything in sight. Sport is about timing.”
FA Cup not the priority for Liverpool with quadruple still possible
It would be a disappointment if Liverpool did not add another trophy to their collection in the remaining weeks of the season. But it is surely fair to say that the fans would still feel a little deflated if the FA Cup was the only other piece of silverware they collected.
For clubs such as Liverpool, the Premier League and Champions League really define their season.
So if they go on and win both of those, but fall short in the FA Cup, it is hard to imagine Klopp having too many complaints about their season.
