‘Mentality of champions’… Brendan Rodgers praises his Celtic side after beating Hibs

Celtic’s win at Easter Road was met more with a sense of relief than celebration by the supporters tonight.

It looked like Celtic were set to drop yet another two points as they toiled to break down a Hibs defence that looked solid for most of the night.

Brendan Rodgers‘ side looked nervy after Hibs equalised midway through the second-half. The Edinburgh side squandered chance after chance but a last minute penalty by Adam Idah sealed the points and send the Hoops support home happy.

However, the Celtic manager was happy with the win and praised his side for holding firm under the pressure.

Speaking after the game, Rodgers was delighted with his side’s composure and said that they had the ‘mentality of champions’.

Rodgers said [BBC], “Winning was never going make us champions tonight, but with 14 games to go it’s very important you get the victories.

“First half we had control, we got a great start so early with good moments.

“Second half we didn’t play great, Hibs deserve credit, they pressed on to the game. Too many times we played backwards.

“But the team showed the mentality of champions.”

Let’s hope that this mentality continues for the reamining games in the Scottish Premiership because looking at recent perfomances of late, Celtic are going to need that.

The teams inability to finish teams off almost came back to bite Celtic tonight but they kept going to the very last minute as new January signing, Adam Idah, stepped up and coolly despatched two penalties to secure the three points.

League business takes a back seat at the weekend as Celtic take St Mirren on in the Scottish Cup but there is little doubt the team’s confidence will take a massive boost after turning what looked like another disastrous night into a vital three championship points.
