Liverpool have been linked with a move for Lyon striker Memphis Depay.

L’Equipe have claimed (via GFFN) that the Dutch international, formerly of Manchester United, is the subject of interest from the Reds in case they lose Sadio Mane this summer, and wants to leave the club.

Mane is supposedly interesting Real Madrid as a result of his fine season, with Zinedine Zidane said to be a keen admirer of the winger.

L’Equipe say that Lyon would not entertain any offers below £26 million.

Depay has had a decent season for the French outfit, scoring eight goals and assisting 12 times across all competitions. His haul this term means he’s already up to 30 strikes in Ligue 1 after 80 games.

TBR’s view

Depay would potentially be a hugely exciting signing for Liverpool.

The player has matured quite a lot since his Manchester United days, and is arguably ready for another shot at the English top flight.

Last season he hit 19 league goals and showcased a real improved finishing ability.

His versatility makes him a real asset, and he could make a seamless transition into Liverpool’s attack, either as a replacement for Mane as a striker or being supported by him and the others.

His lightening pace would make the Reds’ attack even more fearsome.
