Amid reports linking him an exit, Granit Xhaka could be handed the Arsenal captaincy. According to The Daily Star, not only does Unai Emery want to keep Xhaka at Arsenal, he also wants to make him the skipper.

Xhaka had been linked with Atletico Madrid. According to The Mirror, Atletico Madrid want Xhaka to replace Rodri if he joins Manchester City.

But Arsenal want to keep the tough-tackling midfielder. And Emery is prepared to give him the captain’s armband in an attempt to keep him in North London.

The Switzerland international has now been with Arsenal for three years after Arsene Wenger signed him from Borussia Monchengladbach.

In that time, he has played nearly 150 games and scored 11 goals. But fans have been critical of his mixed performances for the Gunners. They feel Xhaka can be inconsistent.
