Tottenham Hotspur and Wolverhampton Wanderers may have a real battle on their hands now for French star Boubakary Soumare.

On Boxing Day, Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay sustained a knee injury against Newcastle United, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer saying after the game he had done his ligaments ‘probably’ (BBC Sport).

The Scotland international’s injury may well prompt United to dip into the transfer market, and one man they’ve recently been linked with is Lille dynamo Soumare.

If McTominay is out for the foreseeable, then signing Soumare could become a bigger priority for the Reds Devils, which could complicate things for Spurs and Wolves, who have both been linked with the player in recent weeks (Foot Mercato).

McTominay tends to operate deep in midfield, and Soumare would be an ideal replacement for the academy product.

Soumare would be a superb addition for any of the Premier League sides.

In recent months his stock has soared thanks to some high level showings in both Ligue 1 and the Champions League.

The 20-year-old is physically impressive, but also has great passing ability from deep.
