McGregor can go on and become a Celtic legend after sealing new contract

Scotland international midfielder Callum McGregor has signed a new long-term contract with Celtic, as per the Daily Mail.

The Mail report that McGregor has committed his future to the club until 2023 and his new deal is reward for an outstanding season so far.

McGregor had reportedly had offers to follow his former team-mate Stuart Armstrong south of the border into the Premier League but said he was not tempted by interest from England.

He said: “There were wee bits of speculation flying about but once the manager spoke to me, there was never a question of moving away.

“To play in front of those fans at a club of this size – you can’t take a decision to leave that lightly. Even for the Premier League.”

McGregor also paid tribute to his captain Scott Brown, who has reached 500 games for Celtic and putting together a similar legacy is now on the cards for the midfielder now he has signed this new deal.

Brown is coming to the end of his playing days and Celtic require a new crop of quality players and leaders to emerge to lead the club into a new era of success, where European progress has to be the ultimate ambition.

McGregor’s comments will be music to the ears of fans who know there are greater riches on offer in England and abroad; they know Celtic require loyalty like McGregor’s to build a quality squad with their budget.
