McGinn's comments underline Celtic's need to upgrade on Lustig
Celtic were reportedly keen to make John McGinn part of their squad this season before he moved to Aston Villa and he has now had his say on Brendan Rodgers’ current options.
Speaking about Hibernian’s tactics against Celtic at the weekend, McGinn has revealed that Neil Lennon used to target Mikael Lustig during the midfielder’s time at the club.
Celtic did not enjoy a particularly successful transfer window, failing to land McGinn and leaving themselves with a squad that feels slightly stagnant.
That led to a slightly slower start to the season, but it has now become clear which areas of his side Rodgers needs to improve upon.

Rodgers must upgrade on Lustig out at right back, that much is clear, and McGinn’s comments only serve to underline that pressing need.
January business is not always ideal – especially in positions where a long-term solution is needed – but Celtic need to press on with finding an improved option.
Premier League outcasts such as Danny Simpson would offer experience, or of course Rodgers may be tempted to dig into the domestic scene of the English Championship; but he needs to move swiftly, especially with European progression sewn up now.
