Ally McCoist has told talkSPORT that he would take Tottenham Hotspur target Jordan Pickford over Hugo Lloris when discussing a combined XI between England and France ahead of their World Cup quarter-final.
The Three Lions are through to the last eight in Qatar after a reasonably comfortable 3-0 victory over Senegal. But clearly, tougher tests lie ahead.

Next up is the world champions. And with that, England are set to face the top goalscorer this time around. But Kylian Mbappe is not the only player to worry about.

But France have potential weaknesses, too. And ahead of the game, McCoist was discussing which players from the two sides would make his combined lineup.

Interestingly, he insisted on talkSPORT that he would pick Pickford over Lloris when it comes to who starts between the sticks.
McCoist’s claim is particularly interesting given transfer reports concerning Tottenham.
90min reported earlier this year that Spurs had asked Everton about Pickford. Of course, Antonio Conte’s men are starting to give some thought to who will replace Lloris in the future.
Lloris has been an amazing servant during his time in North London. And he remains the Tottenham captain having seen off potential challenges from a number of understudies.
But he is now reaching the twilight of his career. And it is probably fair to say that mistakes have been a little more common in the last few years.
Pickford has been a divisive figure, particularly during his time with Everton. But he is someone who has often stepped up on the bigger stages.
It would not necessarily be a universally popular decision should Spurs pursue a deal for Pickford. But clearly, he has a lot of admirers within the game.
