Ally McCoist has given an ominous warning to the rest of the Premier League as Manchester City step up their pursuit of Erling Haaland.

Pep Guardiola’s side have reportedly agreed terms with the Norwegian superstar as the Premier League champions look set to trigger his £63million release clause.

The Mail report that Haaland would become the highest paid Premier League player on a reported £500,000-a-week contract.

After failing to land Harry Kane last summer, the Citizens have gone the full season without an out and out number nine.

But it seems that Manchester City have won the race to sign the much-coveted Haaland, who at the age of 21 is likely to only get better and better.

However, former Rangers striker McCoist believes that Haaland coming to the Etihad Stadium could take City to a whole new level.

McCoist told talkSPORT Breakfast: “From City’s point of view, could that be the final piece of the jigsaw? To be fair, they’ve been doing better than alright without a recognised centre forward.

“I think it is terrifying for the rest of the league. The scary thing is they are not even getting the finished article.

“They’re getting a 21-year-old machine. He is going to develop. He’s got all of the qualities to develop into one of the best ever.

“He’s powerful, quick and clever. Scores all sorts of goals. It’s an awesome signing for the league.”

Despite missing 16 games this season due to injury, the Borussia Dortmund superstar has scored 25 goals from 26 games this campaign.

Since joining the German giants from RB Salzburg, Haaland, whose father Alfie played for Manchester City, has 82 goals and 23 assists to his name from 85 matches.

Alongside Kylian Mbappe, Haaland is likely to be challenging for the Ballon d’Or over the next decade.
