For all the changes Steven Gerrard has made at Rangers since his arrival, he is still hugely reliant on Alfredo Morelos for goals.
Thankfully, the Gers’ top striker keeps delivering and he has been backed by one club icon to hit a milestone that has been left untouched for a decade.
Ally McCoist has said that Morelos is capable of being the first man since Kris Boyd back in 2008/09 to break the 30 goal barrier at Ibrox – so long as he can reign in his discipline and remain clear of suspensions.
He said: “Morelos has got the talent to be a 25-to-30-goal a season striker. I just think the discipline issue is something he needs to work on. he is the best finisher at the club. His goal at the weekend sums him up. I think that is his kind of finish.
“If he can keep himself fit and stay away from suspensions, then there is absolutely no doubt he could get 25 or 30 goals this season.”
Nobody knows what it takes to score goals at Ibrox more than McCoist and he is absolutely right to back Morelos to hit 30 goals this season.
If he does that, Rangers should go very close in the title race and can go far in Europe. Gerrard has his disciplinary problems early in his career and is perfectly placed to help Morelos to stamp them out without losing his edge.
