Porto have offered Celtic a bumper cash-plus-player deal for midfield powerhouse Olivier Ntcham, as per the Scottish Sun.
The Portuguese club are reportedly keen to add the former Manchester City man to their ranks this month and are ready to pay £14m to secure his services, as well as throwing ex-Newcastle United defender Chancel Mbemba into the agreement.
Brendan Rodgers may not wish to accept the offer for Ntcham – he is such an important part of what Celtic are trying to do and only recently signed a new contract – but he should explore the possibility of landing Mbemba.
Mbemba is reportedly way out of favour at Porto, meaning they want him off the wage bill and Celtic are looking for a long-term central defensive option with Dedryck Boyata’s contract expiring at the end of the season.
Rodgers has confirmed he will keep Belgian international Boyata at Parkhead until the end of the season, even if it means he loses him for nothing in the summer.
Mbemba’s underwhelming spell in England with Newcastle may not inspire much confidence among Hoops fans that he is the defender they need, but Boyata also did not impress south of the border.
It took for him to get a regular run of games at Celtic for Boyata to find his form and Mbemba may well be the same; he has all the physical attributes and is still young enough to make name for himself in Scotland.
