‘Maybe’: Jamie Carragher suggests Harvey Elliott could help Liverpool this season

Former Liverpool defender, Jamie Carragher, believes Harvey Elliott could be the ace in the pack for Reds boss Jurgen Klopp this season.

Liverpool have yet to add anything in terms of attacking talent in this summer transfer window. They have lost Gini Wijnaldum, but have added Ibrahima Konate to the back line.

With just a few weeks left in the transfer window, Liverpool fans are looking at FSG to give Jurgen Klopp some funds for new players.

However, if that doesn’t happen, former Liverpool ace Carragher believes that the returning Harvey Elliott could be the surprise package for the Reds.

“I would something to supplement the forwards, but maybe that could be Harvey Elliott who has impressed me in pre-season,” Carragher told the Liverpool Echo.

“There’s no doubt he is a special talent and shouldn’t go out on loan again. The only problem is that his preferred position is that of Mohamed Salah, who is arguably Liverpool’s best player.

Talent

Elliott has played in pre-season for Klopp. The German coach has been impressed with what he’s seen from the youngster.

But while Carragher feels Elliott might not be able to dislodge Mo Salah, he does feel the ex-Fulham man can contribute.

“Salah never gets injured – touch wood – so Elliott won’t get many minutes there. But Klopp has to keep Elliott happy in some ways, and that’s maybe why he’s looking at him in midfield to give him minutes,” Carra added.

“But again, that could be Harvey Elliott if he chips in with five or six goals in the league.”

The Reds start the new season with a trip to Norwich City this weekend and will be hoping for a fast start. Ideally, they’ll take a throwback to the Luis Suarez days, when the Uruguayan simply destroyed the Canaries in back to back games.
