Max Lowe joining Rangers could spell the end of Borna Barisic’s turbulent Ibrox career

Borna Barisic only joined Rangers last summer.

According to a recent report by The Daily Record, Rangers want to sign Max Lowe. Steven Gerrard is interested in contacting his former England team-mate Frank Lampard about this move.

Gerrard wants Derby County’s Lowe to sign on a one-year loan deal for next season. He has already proven his quality at Aberdeen and could now be set for a Rangers move.

The 22-year-old plays at left-back and he has impressed with both his attacking and defensive duties with the Dons.

But Lowe’s potential arrival could be bad news for Borna Barisic. Lowe coming in could force the current Rangers left-back out of the exit door.

Lee Wallace is set to be released. But Rangers still have Andy Halliday and Jon Flanagan for cover at left-back. And Lowe’s arrival would make this department overcrowded.

Barisic could be the man for the axe. The Croatian left-back only joined Rangers last summer from Osijek but he has had a mixed campaign.

The 26-year-old has played 22 times for Rangers which is less than he would have hoped for. Injuries and inconsistent form has held back Barisic’s progress at Ibrox.

Rangers fans have started to get frustrated with Barisic and you get the sense that Gerrard is ready to cut his losses too. But Barisic’s contract lasts until 2022 so a loan move might be the easiest solution for all parties.
