Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly eyeing a move for Werder Bremen captain Max Kruse.

The Lilywhites are said to be ‘intensively involved’ in chasing the versatile attacker, who will be out of contract this summer and therefore available for nothing (Sky Germany, Transfer Update 12.13pm).

Kruse, who signed for Bremen in 2016, has been in good form for the Bundesliga outfit this term, contributing to 21 goals across all competitions so far (nine goals, 12 assists).

In 86 games in total, he has bagged 32 goals for the club and made 29 assists, suggesting him as a player who can make things happen.

It is understood that Werder are working on a new deal for their talisman, but he may only sign if the club secure a place in Europe.

Also waiting in the wings are Internazionale, but Kruse on a potential free could be shrewd business by Spurs.

TBR’s view

Kruse recently turned 31, meaning he has a wealth of experience under his belt.

His goals and assists record for Bremen is very impressive and actually, Kruse has been scoring goals and making assists his whole career.

He may never have ventured outside of German football before, but clearly he has ability.

The fact that he could be available for free suggests that this would be a risk worth taking for Tottenham, and his versatility to play anywhere in attack make him even more enticing.

He would be an untypical signing by Mauricio Pochettino, but the Argentine did sign Fernando Llorente in January 2017.

Kruse is by no means a big name, but he could bring something different to the team and give Dele Alli a push.
