Mauricio Pochettino’s decision to snub English talents like Jack Clarke and Jarrod Bowen makes little sense for Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a number of players over the past two transfer windows but they have still not signed anyone.

According to The London Evening Standard, Mauricio Pochettino has blocked moves for two talented young Championship wingers.

Jarrod Bowen and Jack Clarke have both been scouted by Spurs, but Pochettino remains unconvinced by this pair.

Hull City star Bowen has built on last season’s form with some impressive performances. The 22-year-old scored 14 goals last season and he has already matched that tally this term.

Clarke is enjoying a breakthrough season at Leeds, establishing himself in the starting line-up now after some impressive substitute cameos.

Both players are young, exciting and worth a punt for Tottenham. A few years back, Spurs took a risk on Dele Alli and that gamble paid off.

Meanwhile, overseas imports such as Georges-Kevin N’Koudou and Vincent Janssen have proven to be flops in North London.

So why is Pochettino so reluctant to spend money on bringing young English talent up to the Premier League?

Last summer, Spurs failed to sign Jack Grealish after pursuing the Aston Villa star for the whole transfer window (The Telegraph). And James Maddison was also a target for Tottenham, as per The Telegraph.

An article by The London Evening Standard last December claimed that Pochettino does not like to bring in young players from the Football League.

He sees this as too risky but this stance makes little sense. Given Tottenham’s need for homegrown players and Alli’s success, Pochettino should be willing to gamble on some exciting young Englishmen like Clarke, Grealish and Bowen.
