Former Spurs boss, Mauricio Pochettino, has been talking up the potential of Chelsea target, Lautaro Martinez.
The Argentinian forward is a wanted man this summer is numerous reports are to be believed. Indeed, only yesterday, reports surfaced saying Frank Lampard is very keen on bringing the Inter man to Chelsea.
Signing a striker of Martinez’s calibre would send a big message to the rest of the Premier League. The forward has been in lethal form for the last 12 months now and has already scored 16 times in all competitions this season.
And, with comments that won’t go down well with Spurs fans, their former boss has been talking up Martinez after hearing his name mentioned alongside Chelsea.
“Lautaro Martinez is one of the best strikers in the world. It’s not just for what he does now, but for what his potential means going forward,” Pochettino told Radio La Plata. (quotes via the Standard)
“If you start looking at hitmen for the big clubs, clearly his name has to be in there.”
Pochettino’s former club Spurs are desperate for a new striker themselves. An injury to Harry Kane has once again left them short of options this season. Furthermore, without Kane, the club have dropped to eighth in the PL table.
Spurs fans, then, won’t be too impressed about their former boss talking up a Chelsea target.
World-class potential – TBR View
As Pochettino states, Martinez truly does have the potential to be a world-class talent.
At just 22, he has years ahead of him to improve and work on his game even further. Chelsea could prove a could fit for him given Frank Lampard’s record of working with younger players.
Spurs, meanwhile, should be chucking their name into the hat when it comes to players like this.
Jose Mourinho has connections and a good relationship with Inter Milan. You’d hope, then, that the Spurs boss might look to utilise those and put his club in with a chance of landing Martinez.
