Tottenham Hotspur’s Argentine boss Mauricio Pochettino has been discussing the possibility of one day managing his national team.
Over the years the possibility of Pochettino taking over with Albiceleste has been mentioned. His name was certainly mentioned after Argentina’s disappointing showing at the World Cup last summer. Pochettino himself even told the press in Argentina last year, as reported by MundoAlbiceleste, that to manage Argentina is ‘the dream’.
However, that dream will have to wait. Speaking to FIFA.com, the Tottenham boss made it clear that currently, he would not want to give up the everyday aspect of working for a club team to become national team boss.
“Your country is always there. Argentina will always be in the heart, but they are also emotions that sometimes do not arrive at the right time. Beyond that you feel like it, and that the motivation is there, now would not be the time.
“Today I really like being in everyday life, being in the field with my coaching staff and my players, having a game every week or every three days. That adrenaline that feels competing often… it would cost me a lot to have to compete once every month or two months.”

There is no doubt that every time the Argentina job becomes available, Pochettino is likely to be mentioned.
However, he is still only 47-years-old and will perhaps consider his career at club level as nowhere near complete.
One day, he will surely have the chance to lead his nation but right now, it is clear that Pochettino is happy to be working day-to-day in club management.
