Mauricio Pochettino denies AC Milan talk and explains when he ‘would step aside’ at Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur fans have become used to hearing rumours regarding the future of Mauricio Pochettino. The Argentine is an incredible manager and the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid have been linked in the past. This week, it was the turn of AC Milan.

As reported by The Express, AC Milan chief Ivan Gazidis wants to bring Pochettino to the San Siro in the summer.

But speaking to Goal.com, the Tottenham boss was clear about his future – but did tease his eventual departure someway down the line.

I read it in the press, nothing else. We know how this world works, these kinds of voices do not feed my ego…

“It’s part of football, if we talk about an interest from other clubs I take it as a certificate of esteem.

“When I renewed with Tottenham, I did it to stay and because I believe I can do what we have done this season. I never commented on the rumors, there were also rumors about English clubs and other countries.

“Out of respect for Tottenham, if I felt the need for a new challenge I would step aside…”

There is no doubt that Tottenham Hotspur fans fear envious eyes when it comes to Pochettino. So hearing him make it clear that he is not interested in leaving Spurs for anyone in the near future is always welcome.

The Argentine signed a new deal at Tottenham last May and it is clear he has a vision for the five-year plan put in place with that deal. It is also clear that when his time comes at Spurs, he will amicably, in his own words, ‘step aside’. Tottenham fans will no doubt hope that is a long way down the line considering their love for the former Southampton manager.

His vision at Spurs includes their new stadium, their current Champions League success and, perhaps, a future Premier League title success. Only then, you feel, he would consider the action of stepping aside.

Remember last week Pochettino told Football.London he is ‘not a person that needs to lie to his fans.’

Hopefully, that sentiment rings true again.
