Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on a deal to sign Spanish international Sergio Reguilon from Real Madrid.
As reported by Sky Sports, the defender, who excelled in a loan spell at Sevilla last season, has undergone a medical.
The fee involved, according to The Times, is set to be in the region of £27.5 million and Real Madrid will retain a buy-back option in the deal.
It is an exciting deal for Tottenham, who are in need of left-back reinforcements, and one former Tottenham hero is clearly of the belief that Reguilon is a decent signing.
Mauricio Pochettino has been talking to the press in Spain where he commented on the deal. But whilst he is a fan of the player, he also made it clear that he still had plenty of improving to do before he can truly thrive at Spurs.
“It seems to me that he has a lot of talent,” Pochettino told Cadena COPE. “It is present but he still needs some training.”
Tottenham are in need of a new left-back, with Danny Rose persona non grata and Ben Davies a more defensive option.
Reguilon has proven himself one of Europe’s top left-back options but, as Pochettino states, the Spaniard is still only 23-years-old and has played just one full season of football as a first-team regular at the top level.
Tottenham fans will just hope he progresses into the top player they believe he can.
