Matuesz Klich has told LUTV that he expects Tyler Roberts to become a big part of Leeds United’s promotion push over the course of the season, after the young attacker returned from injury to score last time out.
Roberts, 20, finally made his first start of the season in the 2-0 win over QPR last time out – breaking the deadlock after excellent work from Jack Harrison. The Manchester City loanee laid the ball off to Roberts, and he tucked it away with aplomb.
It has been a frustrating spell at Leeds since Roberts joined The Whites from West Brom for a fee of £4million (Mail), managing just 37 appearances for Leeds since. Upon signing, he instantly suffered an ankle problem ruling him out for the rest of 2017-18.
Poland international Klich is delighted to see Roberts back in action and is enjoying playing alongside the Wales international. Klich also believes that former Walsall loanee Roberts is going to play a big part in Leeds’ promotion push.
“Tyler has had his problems with injuries, but I’m really enjoying playing alongside him because he is a great footballer,” Klich said. “If he stays fit for the rest of the season, he is going to be a big player for us.
“He gives me more freedom and space because the opposition are focusing on him, because he is a better dribbler. It means I can attack from behind and time my runs, so I enjoy playing with him.”
TBR’s view – Can Roberts be secret weapon in Leeds’ promotion push?
It depends on whether Bielsa trusts Roberts enough to start him alongside Klich. With Roberts in the side, Leeds have another goal threat other than the likes of Jack Harrison, Klich, Patrick Bamford and Pablo Hernandez.
Bielsa is also a big fan of Adam Forshaw alongside Klich, given his excellent dribbling ability and passing. But Forshaw is yet to score in 52 league and cup outings – while Roberts has four in 37, only 12 of which he has completed 90 minutes.
