Aston Villa completed the signing of Nottingham Forest defender Matty Cash on Thursday morning – and he posted an excited message on Instagram following the announcement.
Villa confirmed on their official website that the 23-year-old has made the move across the Midlands for an undisclosed fee.
The English defender has come through the academy at Forest and developed into a key figure at the City Ground, winning their player of the season for the 2019/20 campaign.
But he’s now linked up with Dean Smith’s side for the new season and is going to get his first crack at Premier League football.
After starting his career in a midfield role, Cash has been transformed into a right-back during the past couple of seasons and it’s seen him become one of the outstanding full-backs in the Championship.
He’s an all-action defender with huge energy and can provide such a threat on the right, scoring three goals and supplying five assists in 45 games across all competitions last season for Forest.
Cash has uploaded a message on social media after joining and explained that he’s “absolutely buzzing” now the deal is complete.
TBR’s View:
Villa have finally got the ball rolling in this summer transfer window by bringing in Forest’s highly-rated defender and he should be an excellent addition to the squad.
The young full-back is likely to come straight into Smith’s XI to try help them defensively considering their struggles last season, but on the flip side he can bring something to them going forward too.
After flirting with relegation last season in the top-flight, Villa need to strengthen to try push themselves up the table and Cash is a rising star that looks ready to make the step up to the Premier League.
