Matthew Bondswell has posted on Twitter to confirm that he has completed a move to Newcastle United after being rekeased by Champions League side RB Leipzig earlier this year – and Toon fans have responded.
Bondswell, 18, joined Leipzig aged just 15 from Nottingham Forest and has since appeared 14 times for Leipzig’s Under-19 side. He certainly has plenty of potential, having earned four England Under-18 caps and earning a move to Germany.
However, Bondswell left Leipzig last month – failing to break into the first team and Newcastle have swooped. They have landed the teenage left-back with the club confirming that they have received international clearance for the player.
It is not stated how long a contract the England youth international has signed but with Newcastle struggling to solve their left-back slot for a number of seasons – Bondswell could be the long-term answer. He posted on Twitter after the move.
Bondswell is expected to link-up with the Under-23 side, currently managed by Chris Hogg and Peter Ramage. But he will be looking to break into the senior side – where he finds Jamal Lewis, Paul Dummett and Matt Ritchie ahead in the pecking order.
Newcastle fans responded to their latest addition’s Tweet, wishing him luck on his new adventure.
