Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey couldn’t help guide his Ghana side into the knockout stages of the World Cup.

After defeating South Korea, a win against Uruguay would have guaranteed their spot in the last 16.

However, Partey has now taken to Instagram after the Black Stars suffered a 2-0 defeat in their final game.

Both sets of players were disappointed at the full-time whistle, as South Korea’s surprise win over Portugal also eliminated Uruguay.

Partey played every minute of the group stages for Ghana alongside Salis Abdul Samed in midfield.

Ghana were one of the most exciting teams at the tournament, but couldn’t get revenge for their exit from the 2010 World Cup against Uruguay.

Partey is likely to be given some time off now before joining the Arsenal squad in Dubai.

Mikel Arteta’s first team, alongside a selected group of youngsters, are already gearing up for the return of the Premier League.

They face Lyon, Milan and Juventus to get back up to speed before the domestic season restarts.

Partey bows out of the World Cup

The 29-year-old posted to Instagram after Ghana’s elimination from the tournament was confirmed.

“It was our biggest wish to give Ghanaians something to cheers about but unfortunately it didn’t go as we wanted,” Partey said.

“I want to say a huge thank you for the unconditional support from home and across the world.”

Matt Turner, who was eliminated from the World Cup 24 hours after Partey said, ‘Well played TP as usual!’.

Oleksandr Zinchenko, who would have been watching from home simply said, ‘Beast’, while Arsenal transfer target Mohammed Kudus was also very impressed.

Partey is arguably one of the most important players in Arteta’s Arsenal squad.

If the 29-year-old were to pick up an injury, the drop off to his replacements is significant.

His calmness on the ball and ability to break up play makes him the most important player in Arsenal’s midfield.

Partey will be disappointed not to still be at the World Cup.

However, he can quickly put that behind him with Premier League football returning in three weeks’ time.
