Matt Targett has spoken highly of Aston Villa teammates John McGinn and Frederic Guilbert following their recent performances.
Targett, 24, is a left-back that only joined the Midlands club in the summer and is one of several new faces.
He’s beginning to get chances in Dean Smith’s side and has plenty of quality individuals around him in the squad.
Targett has picked out midfielder McGinn for his excellent displays and most Villa fans would agree he’s been the player of the season so far.
The 24-year-old is already looking a natural in the Premier League despite it being his first taste of top-flight action in England.
Meanwhile, Guilbert has started to make the right-back position in his own since linking up with Villa for the new season and the 24-year-old is an attack-minded defender.
“He’s (Guilbert) done well he is pretty much like me, he loves to get forward and put crosses in. Got his first assist on Saturday [against Burnley] which was nice and long may it continue,” Targett said, as quoted by the club’s official Youtube account.
“He’s (McGinn) done so well to be fair. Probably our most consistent player this season, stepping up to the Premier League he doesn’t look out of place one bit, it’s like he’s been there for the last five years.”
Villa are going to have a tough task keeping hold of McGinn in the long-term if his performances continue in the same vein, which is why supporters need to enjoy him while they can.
The central midfielder is essential to the club’s hopes of avoiding relegation this season and is so effective in his box-to-box role.
He’s scored three goals and made one assists in the league so far this campaign, as well as bringing an infectious energy to the team.
Guilbert has perhaps gone under the radar following his breakthrough into the team, but he’s looking very reliable at the back.
He’s been a part of a defence that has mainly looked solid, while it’s his offensive play down the flank that helps him standout.
