Matt Le Tissier has told Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports (broadcast on 1/2; 13:15) that he is expecting Son Heung-min to be tasked with filling Harry Kane’s shoes after Tottenham Hotspur failed to sign a striker during the January transfer window.
With Kane not playing since New Year’s Day due to injury, many expected Jose Mourinho’s men to bring in a new forward while the window was open.

However, that did not prove to be the case. Steven Bergwijn is capable of playing up front, but it would perhaps be a surprise to see the new signing be given the role of replacing Kane while he is sidelined.
Le Tissier admitted that he was surprised to see Spurs not sign a new striker before sharing what he believes Mourinho’s plans will now be having assessed the business that they have done.

“I think that was what everyone was expecting in this window,” he told Soccer Saturday when asked about Tottenham signing a striker.
“I think what it tells me is that he’s going to play Son as the Harry Kane replacement and Bergwijn will come in as one of the wide men, perhaps in a position Son might have played when Harry Kane was in the team. So I think that just tells you, for me, that Son will be playing centre-forward for the foreseeable future.”
TBR View – Mourinho has plenty of options
While Le Tissier is expecting Son to fill in for Kane, Mourinho may not necessarily feel that there is a need to identify one player to lead the line.
Most of the club’s first-choice attackers are versatile enough to play in a variety of positions. So while Son may be an obvious candidate to play up front, there is arguably no reason why Lucas Moura or Dele Alli could not easily move into that role during a game.
A brand new striker would have arguably been the icing on the cake for Spurs after what appeared to be a promising window.
But perhaps it will prove to be a smart move to have not made a rash decision in January and sign a striker for the sake of having one while Kane is out.
