Matt Le Tissier criticises Mauricio Pochettino for Tottenham comments

Mauricio Pochettino was frustrated before Tottenham Hotspur’s excellent 1-0 win over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Tuesday, but Matt Le Tissier has criticised the Argentine manager.

Lucien Favre’s Dortmund had an extra day to prepare for Tuesday night’s second leg. Spurs drew with Arsenal on Saturday, while Dortmund lost to Augsburg on Friday night.

Pochettino was quoted by the Guardian: “One team have 24 hours more than the other to prepare. I think it is massive. I don’t understand that both clubs are not going to arrive in the same situation.”

Spurs went into the match off the back of a difficult run of form. The north Londoners suffered defeats to Burnley and Chelsea, before holding onto a point against Arsenal.

Pochettino criticised his side’s lack of preparation time, but Le Tissier reacted on Twitter. He asked why Chelsea beat Spurs, after the Blues went into extra time on Sunday but Spurs played just 90 on the Saturday.

TBR’s view

Pochettino is getting a bit wild in press conferences of late. Firstly came the argument about winning trophies just enhances one’s ego, which sparked mass reaction from pundits and fans.

Then, he apologised to referee Mike Dean for his angry reaction to Spurs’ 2-1 loss to Burnley. Pre-Dortmund was his latest outburst and although Spurs won, Le Tissier is right.

Preparation is key. But Spurs still had plenty of time from Saturday lunchtime until Tuesday evening. As long as there is at least three days to recover, managers should not have any excuse.
