It was a tough evening for France U-21 and Mathys Tel as they were eliminated from the European Championships at the semi-final stage.
Germany’s U-21 side ran riot in Slovakia as they beat the young French team 3-0 on what was a very disappointing night for Gerald Baticle’s team.
Recently, Tottenham made Tel’s move permanent for £30 million, despite the 20-year-old scoring just three times in 20 appearances last season.
Thomas Frank will likely have been keeping a close eye on Tel’s performance and would have taken note of how he performed.

Mathys Tel’s performance for France U-21 slammed by supporters
Mathys Tel’s performance in France U-21’s 3-0 defeat to Germany has left French and Tottenham Hotspur supporters unimpressed.
The new Tottenham signing’s effort to make things happen was appreciated by some, but ultimately, he struggled to have an impact on the game.
The young French team were humiliated at the hands of the Germans, who will now face England in the final of the European Championships.

| Dribble attempts (successful) | 3 (0) |

Tel scored the winner against Denmark in the quarter-finals, but this time around, he did not quite enjoy the same fortunes.
Wilson Odobert also struggled for France U-21 as Tel’s Tottenham teammate started on the right side of Les Espoirs’ attack.
The winger was quickly withdrawn after 64 minutes as he too struggled to make his mark on the game on a very disappointing night for the two Spurs youngsters.
During the match, Spurs and French fans took to X to share their thoughts on Tel’s performance in the disappointing defeat to Germany.
One French fan said: “Mathys Tel’s tenacity is all well and good, but honestly, I see no progress. He was so irrelevant that he was moved back to the centre.”
Another claimed: “I’m watching the match, but I just can’t see anything special about Mathys Tel, it’s so disappointing.”
There was yet more criticism for the new Spurs signing: “Mathys Tel, I totally don’t see the hype. I see nothing special about him.”
Finally, another French supporter stated: “Mathys Tel has been so average, I think I’m getting off the hype train with him.”
Thomas Frank could be great for Mathys Tel’s development
Frank is excited to work with Tel and the Dane’s arrival could be excellent news for the young Frenchman’s development.
Over the last year or so, the 20-year-old has struggled to make much progress, hence why Bayern Munich were open to letting him leave.
But now with Frank getting to guide in his development, this could be exactly what Tel needs to start reaching his potential.
The 51-year-old enjoyed a brilliant record for improving attackers at Brentford with the likes of Ollie Watkins, Ivan Toney, Bryan Mbeumo and Yoanne Wissa all improving under his tutelage.
| Player | Games | Goals |
| Ollie Watkins | 83 | 34 |
| Ivan Toney | 141 | 72 |
| Bryan Mbeumo | 242 | 70 |
| Yoanne Wissa | 149 | 49 |
Frank will be excited to get to work with many of Spurs’ attacking players, but Tel is likely to excite him the most.
