One of the big success stories of Leeds United’s season has been Polish midfielder Mateusz Klich.

Signed from FC Twente in the summer of 2017, for a fee reported to be in the region of £1.5 million by the Yorkshire Evening Post, the Polish midfielder initially struggled at Elland Road.

He returned to Holland at the midway point last season to finish the campaign with FC Utrecht.

Luckily for the Pole and for Leeds, they appointed Marcelo Bielsa in the summer. The Argentine studied Klich’s performances for Utrecht, where he was in fine form, and decided he deserved another shot at Elland Road.

He has since been in excellent form for Leeds, even earning a recall to the Polish national team as a consequence.

One of the big concerns for Leeds fans, however, has been his contract situation. When Klich signed it was reported by he was contracted to the club until 2020, as reported by the BBC.

That would mean he has just 18 months left on his deal.

However, on the Inside Elland Road podcast from the Yorkshire Evening Post this week it became clear that was not the case. The YEP reporters stated that Klich has a renewal option in that deal, meaning he is ‘technically’ contracted until 2021.

Leeds fans can, therefore, rest easy that Klich will not be in a position where he is fair pickings for interested clubs in the near future.

Undoubtedly that is great news for the fans, who have grown to really appreciate the Polish midfielder’s performances in the heart of the Whites midfield.
