Mateusz Bogusz admits he had Napoli offer before Leeds United, discusses £5m valuation

Leeds United midfielder Mateusz Bogusz has been discussing his current valuation and confirmed he previously had a chance to head to Italian giants Napoli.

Leeds United snapped up the talented Polish youngster in January 2019 for a fee reported by Przeglad Sportowy to be in the region of £172,000. They also reported that he was on the radar of French side Stade de Reims and Premier League outfit Brighton and Hove Albion.

But, speaking to Weszlo this week, Bogusz also admitted that Napoli had made an approach to his former team Ruch Chorzow regarding a potential trial period in Italy.

“Yes, I had a test offer (from Napoli), but Ruch didn’t want to let me go. The proposal came in the middle of the season, somehow in March or April. I don’t know if the coach himself vetoed because of the time it was in the competition.”

He also went on to discuss his current value. It was suggested to him that his current value on transfermarkt is only around €100,000 whilst his former boss at Ruch Chorzow, Juan Ramon Rocha, values him more in the region of £5 million.

“Well, for €100,000, they wouldn’t let me go.

“I trained for a year with him (Rocha), maybe he knows something about it.”

Bogusz is certainly worth more than the bargain fee Leeds paid to bring him in last January but after an impressive pre-season, the 18-year-old has not progressed into the first-team in the way many Leeds fans thought he might.

After being in the first-team squad at the start of the season the teenager has largely been playing with the under-23s and next season a loan deal may be the best option for this highly-talented dead-ball specialist.

As for his valuation, Bogusz is right, Leeds would not let him go for just €100,000.
