Mateo Musacchio’s agent has told Italian outlet Milan News that his client rejected a move to Tottenham on two separate occasions in 2017, with Mauricio Pochettino clearly an admirer of the Argentina international.
Back in 2014, Pochettino’s first season at Tottenham, The Telegraph claimed Spurs were close to completing a £17million move to sign the defender from Villarreal. However, Musacchio did not leave the Spanish outfit until the summer of 2017.
Since his move to Milan, which cost the Italian side £16million (Goal), he has clocked up 73 appearances in all competitions but has been in and out of the side of late – starting just one of their last six Serie A outings, and remaining an unused sub in four.
His future is in doubt ahead of this summer’s window, but the 29-year-old’s agent Marcelo Lombilla seemingly ruined any chance of finally moving to Tottenham by stating his client rejected a move twice in the same year.
“In 2017 we said no twice to Tottenham, and in 30 seconds we said yes to Milan,” Lombilla said. “If we don’t see it in the same way with the club then we will evaluate how to continue. Mateo has a one-year contract left and will have to evaluate his future.”

TBR’s view – Should Mourinho move for long-term Pochettino target?
Struggling to break into a poor Milan side should be enough reason for Mourinho to realise that Musacchio has passed his peak. A huge 249 appearances for Villarreal and more than 70 for Milan saw Musacchio shine, but his decline has began.
Despite all those appearances, Musacchio has only ever earned six caps for an Argentina side that have been crying out for central defenders for quite some time. Tottenham have a lot better, and if they are to enter the market, they can do better.
