Mat Ryan has seemingly kept the door open for a permanent deal at Arsenal with a post on Instagram after his loan spell with the Gunners came to an end, following Sunday’s win over his parent club Brighton – and his post has prompted plenty of reaction from Gunners players, and Bruno Mazziotti.
The 29-year-old only managed three appearances for Arsenal since joining the club he supported as a boy in January – having fallen out with the managerial team at Brighton. But he has quickly installed himself as second-choice goalkeeper, despite the presence of Alex Runarsson.
The 58-time international remains a Brighton player and has a contract at The Amex until the summer of 2022 – but Football London recently reported this month that talks are expected to take place over a permanent move. He posted on Instagram, stating he is “excited for what the future will bring”.
Bernd Leno has come in for criticism at points towards the end of the season and while the German remains the number one, Mikel Arteta could look for a replacement in the coming months. The Gunners will also need to sort out cover – with Runarsson seemingly likely to be allowed to leave.
Physio Mazziotti sent Ryan a heartfelt, long-winded message – just days after he himself left the club. Plenty of players also responded including David Luiz, Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka – while Kieran Tierney perhaps hinted at a future move by commenting: “See you soon”.
