Arsenal surprised fans yesterday by playing a behind-closed-doors friendly against Championship side Millwall.

The Gunners were due to play Inter Milan this weekend in the United States in the Flordia Cup. However, COVID-19 cases in the Arsenal squad cancelled the tour of America.

With no game to be played, Mikel Arteta’s side organised a friendly and London Colney with east London side Millwall. Moreover, the club’s official website showed the entire match on Saturday afternoon.

Whilst Arsenal’s fixtures this summer against Hibernian and Rangers were fairly drab affairs, the Gunners turned up the style against Millwall.

The likes of Calum Chambers, Nicolas Pepe and new signing Albert Sambi Lokonga impressed in a 4-1 win for Arsenal. Moreover, Brazillian winger Willian was also a standout for the Gunners.

The former Chelsea star struggled for form with Arsenal last season. Yet this weekend against the Championship side, Willian was excellent, playing a key role in Folarin Balogun’s goal in the second-half.

Indeed, the 32-year-old attacker was impressive on the day. And supporters on social media were wowed by Willian’s assist for the teenage striker.

Here’s what some Arsenal fans had to say about Willian in their 4-1 win over Millwall on Twitter…
