Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold has been described by Alan Shearer as a “massive talent” and the best right-back in the Premier League.

The 21-year-old is one of the Anfield academy’s greatest success stories in recent years, breaking into the first team and becoming arguably the best right-back in world football.

Since making his debut in 2016, Alexander-Arnold has clocked up 168 senior competitive appearances for Liverpool, registering nine goals and 40 assists.

His heroics have helped the Reds triumph in the Champions League, the Premier League, the UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup.

This season has proven difficult for Alexander-Arnold – indeed, for the whole Liverpool side – but Shearer believes he’s still the best right-back in England.

Discussing the contenders for the Young Player of the Season award on the Premier League YouTube channel, he said: “Trent Alexander-Arnold, already a Premier League winner. In my opinion the best right-back in the country.

“He’s not hit the heights of last season when Liverpool won the title, but he’s still a massive talent thanks to his pace, transitional play, and ability to put exceptional crosses into the box.

“Look at this moment against Man City (a cross which fell perfectly for Sadio Mane to head towards Roberto Firmino), one of his trademark crosses from deep, it’s a skill he perfected last term.

“He did the same against Arsenal for Andy Robertson and it resulted in a goal. Not many players can whip in balls like that, but it’s an art Trent has perfected.”

Liverpool have struggled this season, with injury problems and loss of form derailing the Reds’ hopes of retaining the title, and there will be plenty for Jurgen Klopp to think about in the summer to ensure this doesn’t happen again.

Alexander-Arnold is a player of the highest calibre, with Shearer rightly recognising him as the best right-back in England, and it’s only a matter of time before he’s back on form.
