Gary Neville has hailed Liverpool striker Diogo Jota on Sky Sports for his ‘brilliant’ work-rate against Manchester City today.

Liverpool picked up a massive three points as they beat Pep Guardiola’s men 1-0 at Anfield. The Reds put in a dominant first-half display but had to defend resolutely during the second period.

Jota played a big part in Liverpool’s defensive efforts as he tracked back well on the left-hand side to deal with the threat of Joao Cancelo.

The 25-year-old was stretchered off in the final moments of the game after putting in a massive shift for his side. And Neville was full of praise for the Portuguese attacker.

Cancelo advanced with the ball late on in the game but Jota gave away a professional foul for his side.

And the moment led to Neville highlighting the Liverpool man for his outstanding work-rate during the clash at Anfield.

“He’s put a massive shift in, Jota,” Neville said on Sky Sports’ coverage of the game.

“He’s defended well in this game from the very first few minutes. He’s been back in that box, he’s been chasing back to help Robertson.”

Jota was eventually stretchered off and replaced by Konstantinos Tsimikas after going down with an injury.

But just before he was replaced, Neville heaped praise on Jota and labelled him as one of Klopp’s best players on the day.

“He’s been brilliant Jota, he really has. There’s been a few standout performers for Liverpool and he’s one of them.”

Mohamed Salah’s brilliant goal gave Liverpool the three points and the Egyptian was Klopp’s best player against City.

But the whole side put in an amazing shift to help the Reds bounce back from a disappointing defeat at the Emirates last weekend.

Jota embodied the Liverpool side today with his endless running and tracking back. But his injury will leave Klopp concerned as it seemed to be a serious one.

The German boss will be hoping for positive news on that front but will be delighted to pick up a massive three points.
