Marcelo Bielsa has confirmed in his pre-Charlton press conference – as quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post – as saying that Pablo Hernandez will miss Saturday’s trip to the Valley to take on Lee Bowyer’s side.
Hernandez, 34, has been in sparkling form this season, proving that age is just a number. He has found the back of the net against Bristol City and Nottingham Forest, while laying on assists against The Robins and Stoke City.
It follows on from last season’s stunning performances from the ex-Spain international. Hernandez had a hand in 24 goals last term, scoring 12 goals himself and laying on a further 12 assists. He is crucial to Marcelo Bielsa’s side.
However, Bielsa delivered a bitterly disappointing blow to Leeds fans by confirming former Valencia and Swansea City star Hernandez has suffered a muscle problem that is causing some discomfort – and Helder Costa will start against Charlton.
Pablo Hernandez is not going to play, he has a muscular problem. He felt that warming up in the last match and today it is not good. He is not well enough to play. It is Helder Costa who will play,” Bielsa said.

TBR’s view – Disappointing but Costa finally gets Leeds chance
Costa has been made to wait for his first Championship start and with Bielsa fiercely loyal to his starting line-up, you always felt as though it would have to be an injury before Costa got a start.
Now, the Portugal international gets his chance, but instead of replacing Jack Harrison – as many would have expected – he comes in for Hernandez. It could be a blessing in disguise.
