Derby County midfielder Mason Mount has been discussing his hopes of playing Premier League football. Speaking to The Times the Chelsea loanee made it clear that he hopes to play in the top flight. In doing so, he would be facing one of his best mates in the game. That man is Declan Rice.
“The next move for me is I want to play in the Premier League. It was a goal of mine to play in the Premier League as a young boy. I have close friends playing in there like Declan Rice. He is playing in it week in, week out and I speak to him a lot…
“You always keep in contact and we are very close. He has done unbelievably well this season. Hopefully, I can follow in his footsteps.
“We always speak with each other about playing together one more time and now he has chosen to play with England it could be a possibility in the future.”
The pair played together in the Chelsea youth academy, before the Blues decided to release the West Ham star. Now a full England international, Rice’s career looks to be bright.
Mount remains on loan at Derby, who face an uphill task beating Leeds United in the second-leg of their Championship play-off clash.
But what if, instead of facing Rice, he was on the same team.
West Ham should certainly consider making their own move for the talented midfield playmaker.
Mount, who himself was called up to the England squad by Gareth Southgate last season, has an uphill battle on his hands making it into the Chelsea first-team.
West Ham, on the other hand, could offer him far more regular football and Premier League standing. Pairing up this friendly duo could give West Ham a top English midfield partnership to rival the once highly anticipated, but never truly realised, Michael Carrick and Frank Lampard combo.
West Ham should certainly consider making a play for Mount this summer.
