Martin Zubimendi reveals the one Arsenal player he was excited to see train, the feeling was mutual

Amid all the talk of Viktor Gyokeres signing for Arsenal, Martin Zubimendi’s official arrival in N5 has almost been overshadowed.

Martin Zubimendi has signed a five-year deal with Arsenal, and Mikel Arteta will now enjoy getting the most out of his compatriot’s prime years.

At 26 years old, Arsenal have signed one of the best holding midfielders in European football, and despite Troy Deeney’s doubts about Zubimendi, the Spaniard is so much more than a slow, sideways passer.

Zubimendi is the real deal, and regardless of who Arsenal sign in the remainder of the summer transfer window, the former Real Sociedad man will likely prove to be their most crucial addition.

And after Zubimendi praised Martin Odegaard upon his arrival at Arsenal, he’s now confessed to another Gunners star he’s keen to see at London Colney.

Welcoming the Arsenal family back for the beginning of pre-season, Zubimendi was one of a host of players asked who they were most excited to see upon their return.

Myles Lewis-Skelly said he missed Declan Rice, the teammate he was most looking forward to seeing after a short summer break.

But for Zubimendi it was former Real Sociedad teammate Mikel Merino who he was ‘obviously’ excited to be reunited with at Arsenal.

Asked for his response, Zubimendi simply said: “Obviously, Merino.”

Merino himself then replied, confessing that it was also Zubimendi who he was looking forward to seeing most as well.

“Well, it has to be my teammate, Martin Zubimendi, no? New signing, old friend. Hopefully everything goes great for him.”

Ian Wright made an exciting Martin Zubimendi claim when he almost joined Liverpool

Speaking last September when it looked like Liverpool were going to sign Zubimendi themselves, Arsenal legend Ian Wright made a bold claim about the Spaniard.

Appearing on The Kelly and Wrighty Show, Wright was speaking alongside Owen Hargreaves and suggested that Zubimendi could be the player to help Liverpool win the Champions League.

Speaking about what Liverpool need, Hargreaves began: “To win the Champions League, they need a Rodri, well not a Rodri because he will probably win the Ballon d’Or.

“But they need somebody top level, and if they get that I think they could win everything.”

Wright replied: “If they could get Zubimendi, he’s the one you think could be that guy, I think he could be that guy.”

Therefore, it would appear that Zubimendi could be an excellent addition for Arsenal, who are only a few star players away from winning serious silverware themselves.
