Spotted: What Martin Odegaard did just after Arsenal's second goal at Palace tonight

Arsenal got their Premier League campaign off to the perfect start against Crystal Palace this evening as the Gunners won out at Selhurst Park.

It was an impressive performance from Arsenal, who dominated for large periods of the first half before riding a bit of a storm in the second 45 before putting things to bed with around 10 minutes to play. Gabriel Martinelli got things going perfectly for the Gunners with a fine header in the first period. Then, a cross from Bukayo Saka was headed into his own goal by Marc Guehi to all but kill the game.

Of course, there were eyes on plenty of things when it came to Arsenal tonight. One of which was how new skipper, Martin Odegaard, would perform. And in fairness to the Norwegian, he didn’t disappoint at all. Odegaard was central to plenty of good attacking player, and at one point, he even displayed that bit of captaincy Arsenal fans will love.

Spotted in the 86th minute live on Sky, Odegaard could be seen geeing the Arsenal fans up just after Saka’s deflected second goal. After Saka had a chance to make it three, Odegaard applauded his teammate’s efforts before turning to an already vociferous Gunners crowd and demanding even more from them with a pump of the arms.

Certainly, it was a moment that we don’t see much from Odegaard, and maybe a sign he is loving the captaincy.

Odegaard can’t have asked for much more tonight. He performed very well and led his team to a big three points at a ground that is historically tough.

The midfield maestro will be key for the Gunners this season and his moment with the Arsenal crowd will no doubt endear him further to the Gunners faithful.

On this evidence, Mikel Arteta has chosen just the right man.
