Martin Odegaard believes Arsenal fans haven’t seen the best of him yet as he continues to establish himself as one of the best players in the Premier League.

The Arsenal captain has been nominated for the PFA Player of the Year award after his outstanding displays during the 2023-24 campaign.

Odegaard notched up eight goals and ten assists across 35 Premier League appearances for Arsenal last season as they fell short to Manchester City by two points in the Premier League title race.

Ahead of the Gunners’ 2023-24 Premier League opener against Wolverhampton Wanderers, the Norwegian midfielder has pinpointed the areas of his game that still need improving.

Odegaard says Mikel Arteta is constantly pushing him and the rest of his teammates to improve ahead of the new season.

“Personally, I’m proud to have been nominated for the PFA Player of the Year award, but I’ve set myself a lot of targets to improve this season,” Odegaard said in his captain’s notes published in the matchday programme on Arsenal’s official website.

“There is always room to improve my game, and I know there are a lot of things I can do better with and without the ball. That’s the mindset we all have here, and Mikel is always pushing for more from us.”

Odegaard spoke about his desire to dominate games in the centre of the park for Arsenal this season as they aim to dethrone Manchester City at the summit.

Odegaard continued: “I think in every aspect of my game I can do better, and I can dominate games more with the ball and win possession more when I’m without it. So there is a lot I need to work on this season.”

Odegaard joined Arsenal in a £30m deal from Reavl Madrid in 2021 and has made 153 appearances for the club in all competitions since.

What can we expect from Arsenal this season?

Arsenal have retained all their key players and bolstered their squad with the addition of Riccardo Calafiori, who joined the club from Bologna earlier this summer for a fee believed to be in the region of £40m.

Arteta is on the lookout for further reinforcements before the transfer deadline, while a handful of players have also been linked with exits.

Mikel Merino is in talks to sign for Arsenal and there have also been suggestions that the Gunners could dip into the transfer market for replacements if they sell an attacker.

Eddie Nketiah is up for sale amid interest from Marseille and Bournemouth, while Reiss Nelson wants to move to another Premier League club to get regular game time under his belt.

Regardless of what happens between now and the end of the transfer window, Arsenal have a strong squad capable of competing on all fronts this season.

The Gunners missed out on the Premier League title to Manchester City over the past two seasons but will look to learn from their mistakes to get their hands on the trophy for the first time since 2004.
